The Golden Path
Caught this blockbuster drama this year end. Been some time since Mediacorp have dramas starring the 'old' actors and actresses! Only 2 episodes and im liking this drama so much!
Starring Li Nan Xing, Chen Liping, Chou Chor Meng and Zheng Ping Hui.....i already liking the childhood scene and story. Stories from the past whereby each family rents a room from the landlord and shares the living room and kitchen. Neighbours helping one another and taking care of one another under the same roof. Kids who are fortunate enough to be sent to school without worries as well as kids who even have to worry about their next meal.
Jin Long (Li Nan Xing's son) actually dropped out of school so as to find money in order to survive and provide for his younger sister while his father disappear oftenly to 'sail'. I was particularly tied to such real-life scenarios and felt deeply for. When going to school isnt something taken for granted but wanted. When the poor kids could only enviably look at the other kids go to school happily, with brand new textbooks and stationaries, bags and shoes every new year. The past that is so close to the heart of many of us that is almost forgotten.
Yes, i almost forgot how hard the path was...how much my family and i went through to finally get sheets and sheet of 'paper' to land me a decent job. As life gets comfortable, these lessons seems to fade away. Starting school with my very own textbooks was my very wish every year when i was young...to earning my every buck to buy assessment books and paying for school fees. When being forced by circumstances, all that determination, drive and focus was always there in the mind. When i finally reached my 'final' goal as planned, academically, i seemed to have taken a backseat...slowly sinking on that comfort chair...and that expectation for improvement in standard of living just keeps going up. Fortunate or unfortunate?
Looking back, i wonder how i manage to survive and pull through. Not to say my wonder-mum who worked 3 jobs a day to keep my family going. Till now, she is still as wonderwoman as before. Nothing seems to be an obstacle for her...perhaps i've been all too fortunate to have her as my mom that i dint have all that survival skills to solve every single problem in the world.
Been thinking alot, feeling alot and seeing alot since im back from my US trip. Falling sick during the past week serves as reminders how my mom always try to reduce the pain im feeling.
Watched a taiwan discussion show last weekend while my parents were away in China. Regarding this artiste and her 2 daughters + 3 female hosts. And i realised, im not the only one trapped and feeling/thinking the stuffs im thinking regarding my family. This same dilemma is affecting 1 of this female host... she was sharing, how sad and heartbroken she was, that time dint wait for her. When young, we wanna grow up faster and earn lots and lots of money so that the family will have a better life...to repay our parent's kindness. Then when we grew up, we are so caught up in earning more and more to provide them with a better life, to provide for them the best, to give them what they want and bring them where they wanna be. Yet we are just fulfilling the xiao4 part of being xiao4 shun4. Hardly, we ever fulfill the shun4. To shun4 zhe4 ta1 men2 de4 yi4. We understand where they are coming from..and why they nag on certain things..but most of us just go with our wishes.
At this age, im guilty of being an increasingly 'self' person. Always caught up with my trainings, activities, searching for the sense of living, money and responsibilities. Im guilty of 'rejecting' all the good that my parents is making. I wanna be appreciative and let them know i appreciate them. After watching that show and soaking myself in the tear pool for that 1h, im really missing my mom alot...half way thru my sleep, i wokeup and i saw a set of sports jacket and SHE ktv, and a TW movie by my bedside...i was really touched..i knew it. My mom always put me in her mind, just like many other parents in the world. Dint expect her to buy anything...and even when she did, usually it was 'rejected' haha...coz i would always complain its not nice...(yes i am super fussy)..but from that day onwards, i'll change that, only to her.
Haha..escapism. I'm really upset and feeling helpless more than several times for the slow progress im actually making in my life and my increasingly tiredness in life to strike the balance the way i did in the past. Im also guilty of not working hard enough, not fighting hard enough. Wonder where all that aspiration, determination and courage went....but my life is comfortable and well-provided for, coz i have a wonderful mom...as always...im like a nobody without her. Love you mom!
